It’s raining and I am feeling relaxed. Had a very mellow weekend (by HK standards), which was awesome.
• Just passed the 32,000 word mark on my growth & development paper for UCLA. Yow.
• Understanding HKU’s grading schemes and testing style has been a total headache. I have decided that it’s not worth worrying about. It will work out in the end.
• Went to Lantau island today and played ultimate on the beach. Super fun + good to get out of the city to run. I have a 8KM circuit that starts my dorm (on Sassoon) down the hill to Cyberport, back up through the villas, down to HKU, and back up Pokfulam road. The only problem is that after doing the run 3/4 times, I noticed that I was coughing up solid pieces of congealed smog. Bad times. (Locals told me it was NBD.) Am going to make an effort to run at higher altitudes (the Peak) so I don’t totally kill my lungs.
• Generally feeling pretty in-tune w/ life in Hong Kong. I can pick up bits and pieces of Cantonese (mo, jo san, basi jam yow lok mm goi, etc.) and find myself running into logistical and cultural walls less and less. I crack people up by saying “Mo men tai” (no problem), all the time.
5 weeks to go and I’d be lying if I said I’m not itching for home. This has very little to do with Hong Kong. I am going to miss it here. It’s just been a long time to be away.
